Travelling is the Door to Nirvana

Man has to unlock several doors and cross many obstacles in order to achieve Nirvana or Moksha (union of human soul with the universal divinity). According to the traditions and holy scriptures, these relate to the renunciation of materialistic pleasures of the world, forfeiting our relationships and human bonding, and control over our emotions.

Nirvana is also said to be the highest state of being and existence for mankind. To me, this definition works very well. Why? Because, like others, i too am little selfish in choosing what i know works very well for me. So, is there a particular instance or state when i feel that way? O yes, definitely. I feel the highest state of being when i travel as if there is no tomorrow, when my camera is tucked beside me, always ready at an opportunity and when the conversation with local people – completely strangers to me – bring our hearts closer. This is when my soul gets satiated with the universal divinity. Travelling liberates me from my vices and biases. It gives me a quintessential sense of dimension that this is a big world with lots of places to visit and that one life is so insufficient to see and do everything that my heart desires. In other words, my definition is the complete antithesis to the idea of Nirvana. But who cares.

What is your definition of Nirvana? When do you feel the highest state of being? Is there anything in particular that you want to share with us. Express yourself. We are waiting for your thoughts. Thank you.

My definition would be the literal meaning, which we all know. I love Travelling too, but i would classify it as something that gives me immense happiness but not that end state that could be achieved with Nirvana.

I think the older I get, the easier for me to feel being at that state… standing in front of an ocean or a big mountain; witness a kind act; seeing a beautiful art piece; listening to children laugh or raindrops…
    Have a great weekend.

    • Beautiful Helen. You just nailed it. I guess older you get, more matured and experiential one gets. And that’s what adds multitude of stories in life. Standing in front of an ocean is such an amazing feeling. I just love it. Seeing the mighty ocean and thinking how small we are in front of it is a thought worth experiencing.

You too Helen have a wonderful weekend and July 4th 🙂

My nirvana comes in the very middle of a trial I am fully exerting myself at. After it ends I feel spent and content

I agree with you Suyash – one life time is definitely not enough to learn and see things. Nice capture. 🙂

Suyash! I second your opinion on nirvana…..at the same time, being into photography, having enough time at your disposal for photography is “super nirvana”…..LOL!
try hiking through the dense forest…and detach yourselves from mobile, connectivity, work, deadlines, work pressures…..and rediscover yourself!

    • Absolutely. It’s super Nirvana.

I guess for next months, we will not be able to take up any further trips but next year is going to be fun and exciting. Hiking among the nature is one of the best part of the trip. 🙂

  7. When completely surrounded by trees. At some point, I find myself reaching out to touch the bark of trees, hearing every bird, smelling the forest and feeling relaxed and at peace with nature.

Agree with you on feeling “the highest state of being” when traveling, absolutely true, and very hard to explain that feeling to a non-traveller 🙂
